A subtype of thyroid cancer (noninvasive encapsulated follicular variant of papillary thyroid cancer ) is now reclassified as a benign condition. This is now called "noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features,” or NIFTP. This reclassification may decrease the incidence of thyroid cancer over time.
